Umar Sadiq scores the winner for Valencia CF
Valencia CF earned a Matchday 11 victory away to Elche CF, with the only goal at the Martínez Valero coming from second half substitute Umar Sadiq.
Seven minutes in, Javier Aguirre’s men created a dangerous opportunity in the home team’s area in two phases: First Javi Guerra, then Arnau Martínez -who had pushed high up the right flank—kept the move going, though the latter’s shot ended up missing the target.
Elche CF gradually began to dominate control, while Valencia CF looked to capitalise on counterattacks. Twenty minutes in, the home side struck the crossbar following a move involving Cepeda.
In the 40th minute, Valencia CF threatened once again when Guerra made a powerful surging run, before laying the ball off to Pablo Maffeo; however, the overlapping fullback sent his effort wide of goal.
Elche CF responded with an overhead kick from Fer Niño, which sailed just over Stole Dimitrievski and the crossbar.
SECOND HALF
Three minutes after the restart, Valencia CF created a chance through Luís Rioja, who drove into the penalty area and played a cutback, but no teammate was positioned to finish off.
Shortly after, Dimitrievski had to intervene to stop a shot from Cepeda at the other end.
Valencia CF took the initiative in attack during the second half, with several threats on goal. Off a corner kick, César Tárrega nearly opened the scoring, but his header bounced just wide.
Umar Sadiq’s arrival came midway through, as the Nigerian forward returned after a seven-match absence due to injury.
Former Valencia CF player Germán Valera could have put Elche ahead with a strike from outside the box, but could not keep his effort on target, whilst Valencia CF responded with an attacking move involving Sadiq -saved by Dituro.
In the 69th minute, Guerra found Arnaut Danjuma in space; the Dutch winger linked up with Sadiq, who produced a brilliant finish -cutting past Gonzalo Villar inside the box before firing a low shot into the bottom corner to make it 0-1.
In the 87th minute, Valencia CF had a chance to kill the game off through a sequence involving Raba, Sadiq, and Danjuma, but they were unable to bring it to fruition.
Next up is a game against Real Madrid on Saturday, November 7th, at 9pm local time.
